Lamine Yamal on What Barcelona Needs to Win the Champions League

Lamine Yamal has made it clear that Barcelona are not content with just a strong start to the season. The team aims for bigger achievements, including success in the Champions League.

The Blaugrana have become one of the standout teams this campaign, and Yamal believes their squad possesses both the skill and unity necessary to fight for major trophies.

Luck and Experience Crucial in Europe

Discussing the Champions League challenge with On Sport (via Mundo Deportivo), Yamal emphasized the fine margins that decide outcomes in Europe’s top competition. One poor game can end a season abruptly.

"It all comes down to fate. The Champions League isn’t decided in a single match; you can play badly and lose the title. So you need luck, along with experience, and these things build up year after year," Yamal said.

He highlighted that while the team controls its performances, knockout rounds often hinge on small moments, injuries, finishing, and mental strength under pressure. Despite this, Yamal’s ambition remains high.

"I hope luck is on our side this year. We’re playing to win the title; we’re not here just for a stroll. We want to win and bring the trophy back to Barcelona, and God willing, we’ll achieve victory this year."

Raphinha and Lewandowski Bring Different Strengths

Yamal was asked to compare Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, especially since Raphinha has impressed in a centre-forward role. Instead of picking who is better, Yamal pointed out how their different skills help the team.

"I don’t think it’s a question of better or worse. The team adapts to different players, and each player has different strengths. Robert stands out for his finishing ability, while Raphinha is a great passer. Each has their own strengths and skills, and every player shines for what they do."

Winning Mentality Fuels Barcelona’s Strong Start

Yamal also praised the squad’s progress and chemistry. New signings have integrated well, and the bond among the established players keeps growing. This mix has powered Barcelona’s impressive early season form.

"We’re in great form at the moment and keen to keep playing entertaining and exciting football. There’s been a step up in standard, performance, and quality because of the new players settling quickly and the chemistry between the established players getting stronger daily."

Finally, Yamal stressed the team’s shared mindset.

"We all play with the same mindset – a winning mindset – and we’ll always do what we believe is best for the team. We’re one big family within the squad, and our aim is always to win."
