Leeds United Challenge Goal Decision for Jayden Bogle

Leeds United have challenged the decision to credit Jayden Bogle with their second goal in Monday night’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United.

The flashpoint came in the 34th minute. James Justin whipped in a cross, Dominic Calvert-Lewin attacked it, and Elland Road thought he had powered in a trademark header for 2-0. On the big screen, though, the name that eventually appeared beside the goal was Bogle’s.

Initially, Calvert-Lewin celebrated as if it was his. The striker wheeled away, teammates mobbed him, and the stadium announcer called it in his favour. Only later did the mood shift.

When the referee later informed him the goal had been awarded to Bogle, Calvert-Lewin looked stunned. He did at least get on the scoresheet officially before the interval, striking Leeds’ third in first-half stoppage time, but the earlier decision clearly jarred.

The Premier League match centre later confirmed on X that the “goal accreditation panel adjudged Leeds’ 34th minute goal as a Bogle goal”, ruling that the defender had the decisive final touch.

Leeds have now lodged a formal appeal against that ruling. A second, separate panel will be convened to review the footage again and make a final call on who gets the goal.

On the pitch, the points are already in the bag. Off it, the argument over who truly scored that second goal is only just getting started.
