Leeds United are reportedly moving forward with discussions to bring Manchester City's goalkeeper James Trafford to Elland Road this summer. The club is looking to strengthen its squad after the departure of Karl Darlow, who had claimed the starting spot under manager Daniel Farke during the latter half of the 2025-26 season.

Darlow recently left Leeds on a free transfer to join Manchester United, leaving the Yorkshire club in need of competition for their current keeper Lucas Perri. Early speculation suggested that Japan international Zion Suzuki might arrive from Parma, but interest in him has since quieted.

According to The Athletic, Leeds are focusing on signing Trafford, who is keen on leaving Manchester City. Previous interest from Newcastle United appears to have cooled, leaving Leeds as the primary contender for his signature.

Trafford’s Role and Transfer Details

Last season, the 23-year-old goalkeeper featured 17 times across all competitions for Manchester City, though only four appearances came in the Premier League. He contributed to City’s successful campaigns in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Manchester City acquired Trafford from Burnley last summer for a fee reported between £27 million and £31 million. It is expected they would seek a similar amount should the transfer proceed.

Following a strong second half of last season that helped Leeds avoid relegation, the club aims for a top-half finish in the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
