According to Foot Mercato, Leipzig have reached a preliminary agreement with Milan over a loan for the current window. The proposed deal would cost the Bundesliga side around €3 million for the season, with a purchase option set at roughly €27 million.

Nothing is signed. Not yet. Leipzig still have to find an agreement with Nkunku himself on personal terms before anything can be sealed.

The motivation is clear. Leipzig want to revive a partnership that once lit up the Bundesliga, banking on the idea that a return to familiar surroundings can reignite a player whose time at Milan never truly caught fire. Milan, for their part, are working out the cleanest way to part company, weighing the balance between an immediate sale and a structured exit.

Newcastle push for permanent deal

Just as Leipzig appear to be edging ahead, Newcastle United are refusing to step aside.

The Premier League club remain firmly in the race for Nkunku and are continuing direct talks with both Leipzig and the player’s camp. Their intention is different: Newcastle are pushing for a permanent transfer straight away, not a loan with an option.

That stance could prove crucial. A guaranteed sale would likely appeal to Milan, who may prefer an outright transfer fee now rather than a loan that delays the final decision and the bulk of the income.

So the situation hangs in the balance. Leipzig are offering a return to a proven stage, Newcastle the lure of the Premier League and a clean break for Milan. Nkunku’s next move will say plenty about where he sees the best chance to relaunch his career.
