Ligue 1 Round 2: Predictions and Pressure Ahead of Lille v PSG

Seven days. That is all Paris Saint-Germain have had to change the mood.

Luis Enrique’s side stumbled out of the blocks, held by Stade Rennais last Friday and forced to lean on a second-half brace from Ferran Torres just to escape with a point. The performance looked exactly like what it was: a team whose pre-season had been cut short, still shaking off rust against high-level opposition.

Now comes another road trip, another contender for the Champions League places, and another early-season examination of PSG’s nerve.

They travel north to face Lille OSC, and neither side arrives at full strength. PSG are missing Ousmane Dembélé, a major creative outlet. Lille, though, are without Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who has been sidelined until his transfer situation is resolved. That absence bites hard. Ayoubb Bouaddi has also departed, but Lille had already mentally moved on from that one.

Even so, there were encouraging signs on opening weekend. Under Davide Ancelotti, LOSC eased past SCO Angers 2-0 without ever needing to hit top gear. It was controlled, calm, and efficient.

This, though, is something else entirely.

Ancelotti Jr. is stepping into the spotlight. Unproven at this level, he now faces the biggest test of his young coaching career: finding a way to blunt a wounded PSG that knows it cannot afford to drop more early points.
