Liverpool make €135m move for Barcola amid PSG negotiations
Liverpool have thrown down a huge marker in the summer market, tabling an improved €135 million offer to Paris Saint-Germain for winger Bradley Barcola, according to Foot01.
This is no longer a tentative courtship. It is a full-scale assault on one of Ligue 1’s brightest attacking talents.
A telling omission
The first real shockwave came before a ball was even kicked. Luis Enrique left Barcola completely out of PSG’s matchday squad against Lens. Not on the bench. Nowhere.
For a fully fit France international, that kind of omission rarely happens by accident. Inside the club, it has been read as a clear sign that negotiations with Liverpool have reached a critical phase and that PSG are preparing for life without him.
Barcola, formerly of Lyon, is understood to remain determined to secure a move to Anfield before the window closes. Liverpool had previously tested the waters with offers just over the €100m mark. Those were serious bids, but not enough to move PSG from their stance.
This time, the numbers have changed – and so has the mood in Paris.
Money talks – and Liverpool are now shouting
Liverpool’s decision to significantly raise their proposal to €135m has been helped, according to the report, by the arrival of the Amazon boss into the club’s capital structure. With fresh financial muscle behind them, the Reds have decided to go all-in on a player they see as a major part of their next attacking cycle.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi did not immediately dismiss the new bid. Instead, executives at the club are now studying the offer in detail. That alone marks a shift.
Inside PSG, Barcola had been valued at close to €150m. That figure was designed to ward off casual interest and reflect his long-term importance. But the landscape is changing. Senior figures in Paris are now weighing up whether it is smarter to accept a slightly lower fee than originally hoped, secure a clean exit and avoid another drawn-out saga like Kylian Mbappé’s departure.
The player’s conduct is also part of the equation. Barcola has behaved professionally throughout, and there is a growing sense that PSG may choose a smoother, more respectful separation this time.
Arsenal interest cools as Liverpool move first
Across the Channel, there had been talk of a Premier League battle. Arsenal’s name surfaced repeatedly around Barcola, sparking suggestions of a late twist.
English reports have now cooled that storyline. The Gunners admire the winger and hold an interest, but crucially, no talks have taken place between Arsenal and PSG. There is no club-to-club negotiation, and with Liverpool already deep into discussions with the French champions, an Arsenal move is described as unlikely at this stage.
For now, this is Liverpool’s race to win – or lose.
Deal edging closer
Inside PSG, the debate is clear: hold firm for something near €150m and risk unsettling the player and the dressing room, or accept €135m, bank a huge fee and draw a line under one of the summer’s biggest transfer stories.
Les Parisiens are carefully considering whether to adjust their demands to facilitate a smooth exit for a player who has not kicked up a fuss, even as speculation swirls around him.
Talks between Liverpool and PSG are now advanced. The move, once a distant possibility, is edging closer to reality. Liverpool are pushing to close the agreement in the coming days, intent on landing a marquee signing before the window shuts.
If PSG sign off, one of the most expensive transfers of the summer will send Barcola to Anfield – and send a clear message about where Liverpool intend to sit in the European hierarchy in the seasons to come.
