Liverpool Pursues Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye
Liverpool have pushed their chips to the middle of the table for Bradley Barcola, raising their offer and making the Paris Saint-Germain winger the centrepiece of a planned overhaul of their wide options.
After losing out on Yan Diomande – who chose PSG before Real Madrid dramatically stepped in to hijack that move – Liverpool have shifted their focus fully onto Barcola. The 23-year-old, tempted by the prospect of a bigger role under new head coach Andoni Iraola, is understood to be keen on Anfield, with the promise of more minutes a decisive factor.
Liverpool and PSG locked in over price
The talks are now where it really hurts: the fee.
Liverpool opened negotiations by signalling they were prepared to pay around €100m (£86m) for Barcola. PSG’s response was blunt. They value him at around €150m (£128.5m) and have been holding that line.
The gap has narrowed. According to BBC Sport, Liverpool have now indicated a willingness to go to £100m (€117m) to get the deal done. It is a clear escalation and a statement that Barcola is not just a target, but a priority.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Monday that “official club-to-club talks” are underway between Liverpool and PSG. The dialogue is active, the numbers are moving, but an agreement is not over the line yet.
If the clubs finally meet in the middle, the rest should be straightforward. Personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block for Liverpool, which means the moment the fee is agreed, the transfer is likely to accelerate quickly.
PSG, for their part, are not waiting around to see how this ends. They are already preparing for life after Barcola, working on moves for Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco and Ajax’s Mika Godts as potential replacements on the flanks.
A double raid: Barcola and Mbaye
This is not just about one winger. Liverpool are trying to reshape both sides of their attack with an ambitious double swoop on PSG.
Alongside Barcola, the club have moved for Ibrahim Mbaye, the 18-year-old who caught the eye with Senegal at the World Cup. Reliable French reporter Fabrice Hawkins has reported that Liverpool have made contact with PSG over the teenager, underlining the depth of their interest.
The profiles fit neatly. Barcola prefers to attack from the left, cutting in and stretching defences. Mbaye is more at home on the right, offering balance and width on the opposite flank. For Liverpool, landing both would mean reinforcing each side of their forward line in one coordinated push.
On Tuesday night, Romano added a fresh layer to the Mbaye story, revealing that Liverpool have also made contact with his new agent, Jorge Mendes. Mbaye has offers from Bundesliga clubs, but is currently giving priority to the Liverpool project.
There has already been late drama in his situation. A deal with RB Leipzig was close, only to collapse after the Diomande-to-PSG move fell apart. That breakdown has reopened the door for Liverpool, and talks are expected to continue, as first highlighted by Hawkins.
Liverpool are now deep in a high-stakes negotiation with one of Europe’s most powerful clubs, chasing not just one winger but a pair who could reshape their front line. Whether they are willing to push that Barcola bid any higher – and how hard PSG cling to their valuation – will define how bold this new era at Anfield really becomes.
