The arrival of Guimaraes adds to midfield options that include Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Mikel Merino, leaving Lewis-Skelly's future uncertain.

Support for Liverpool to Join Transfer Race

Darragh MacAnthony, owner of Peterborough United, has publicly urged Liverpool to make a move for Lewis-Skelly, particularly as cover and competition for their current left-back Milos Kerkez. He said, "I love him, I think he’s a great, young player. Why has he not been offered to Liverpool? Someone asked what he’s worth, and I said anywhere from £40-60 million for a player of that age who is English."

Competition Needed for Defensive Role

Kerkez is expected to start as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back this season, ahead of Kostas Tsimikas, who still wants to fight for his spot. MacAnthony believes Lewis-Skelly would be an important addition, explaining, "All day long. We need competition for our left-back. No disrespect to Tsimikas, but not for me. Lewis-Skelly can also play in midfield; we’ve seen him in that role." When asked if midfield was his best position, MacAnthony confirmed, "Correct. Liverpool need a player with defensive skills who can also contribute technically to the attack."

The situation may be tough emotionally for Lewis-Skelly, who made only five Premier League starts last season.
