Zavier Gozo Joins Crystal Palace as Rising American Soccer Talent
The Premier League will soon feature another promising American player. Zavier Gozo, a top prospect from the US men's national team pool, has officially joined Crystal Palace from Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake. The deal spans five years and is reportedly worth over $15 million.
Gozo expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I’m really looking forward to playing in the Premier League with Crystal Palace. It’s the dream of any footballer. I’m excited by the people and the project they have going on here. I’ve seen a lot of it, and that’s what excites me about this club as well, the success that they’ve had."
A Rapid Rise for the 19-Year-Old Winger
Born in West Valley City, Utah, Gozo’s ascent has been swift. Six years ago, he moved from his local club to join Real Salt Lake’s youth academy. By 2023, at just 16 years old, he made his MLS debut. Now, he is set to compete in one of the world’s toughest leagues.
Crystal Palace shared their excitement about signing the young attacker on social media:
- Crystal Palace F.C. Tweet: “We are delighted to have completed the signing of exciting teenage attacker Zavier Gozo from Real Salt Lake 🦅” (August 18, 2026)
His performance during the spring season caught Palace's attention. In 16 starts, Gozo scored six goals and added five assists, earning him his first MLS All-Star selection.
“Life moves so fast. You play well for a couple of games, and you’re an All-Star. It came faster than I thought and faster than a lot of people thought. It’s been a great journey,” Gozo shared with Sports Illustrated at the MLS All-Star Game.
Joining Forces with Chris Richards at Palace
Gozo joins fellow American Chris Richards at Crystal Palace. Richards, a key defender for the U.S. men’s national team, was a starter in the 2026 World Cup this summer. Seven years older than Gozo, Richards may serve as a mentor as the young winger aims to earn his senior national team debut this fall.
Richards welcomed Gozo via a message posted by the club on social media: "Yo bro, it’s Chris. Heard through the grapevine you might be joining me in South London all the way from the 801. Can’t wait to get going. Congrats bro, and see you soon."
Growing American Presence in the Premier League
This season, several Americans will compete across England’s top flight alongside Gozo and Richards.
- Antonee Robinson plays fullback for Fulham
- Brenden Aaronson is an attacking midfielder at Leeds United
- Tyler Adams anchors midfield for Bournemouth
- Haji Wright is a striker for newly promoted Coventry City
The English Football League Championship also features numerous American talents:
- Max Arfsten, Sebastian Berhalter, and Aidan Morris represent Middlesbrough
- Patrick Agyemang plays for Derby County but is sidelined due to an Achilles tendon injury, expected back this winter
Looking Ahead to the New Season
Crystal Palace will open their 2026–27 campaign against Everton this Saturday, where Gozo could make his Premier League debut. The arrival of these young Americans shows the increasing impact of U.S. soccer players abroad.
