Liverpool Targets Spain World Cup Star Ferran Torres Amid Barcelona Contract Uncertainty
Following his decisive goal in Spain’s 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina to claim the 2026 World Cup, Ferran Torres has caught the attention of Liverpool. The forward’s contract with Barcelona is running down, with less than a year remaining, stirring speculation about his next destination.
Barcelona’s Forward Line in Flux
Barcelona are actively pursuing another striker, Julian Alvarez, believed to be the club’s plan for the future after Robert Lewandowski. This interest complicates Torres’ standing at the Catalan club. Despite this, Torres delivered his best season yet last term, netting 16 league goals in 33 appearances, many as a substitute.
Liverpool’s Interest and Squad Needs
Reports from L'Equipe indicate that Liverpool sees an opening to bring Torres into the Premier League. Andoni Iraola reportedly views Torres as a valuable addition to a forward line weakened by Mohamed Salah’s departure and Hugo Ekitike’s long-term Achilles injury, which may sideline him until 2027.
Torres’ versatility across the front three enhances his attractiveness. Since moving from Manchester City to Barcelona in January 2022, the 26-year-old has scored 65 goals in 201 games. His stint at City saw him score 18 goals in 43 matches over 18 months.
Other Clubs Monitoring Torres
Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed interest. Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique values Torres highly, adding to the competition for his signature.
