Liverpool are on the brink of landing one of Europe’s most coveted wide forwards – and the move could trigger a major shake-up in their attack.

Bradley Barcola to Liverpool is now effectively done. Fabrizio Romano has delivered his trademark “here we go”, confirming that Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement in principle for the France international.

The deal is huge. Liverpool will pay a guaranteed £100m, with additional add-ons built into the agreement. From the PSG side, club sources are briefing that they expect to receive around €140m once those bonuses are factored in.

Paperwork is the only thing left. The clubs are preparing and exchanging documents, lawyers will run their checks, and once that process is complete Barcola will be cleared to travel for his medical and to sign his Liverpool contract.

For weeks, noise from France and England suggested PSG would not sell. Figures as wild as €170m were floated, and there were firm denials that Barcola was on the market. Liverpool never walked away. Romano stressed that throughout the saga he kept warning not to rule out a Liverpool-Barcola agreement – and he’s been vindicated.

The result: Liverpool get a winger they believe is already among the best in the world in his position. PSG bank a vast fee. Barcola gets the move he wanted. As Romano put it, all sides are happy and the story, as far as this transfer is concerned, is “over”.

Spotlight swings to Cody Gakpo

One story ends, another opens. Barcola’s arrival naturally raises the question: what now for Cody Gakpo?

The Dutchman’s future has been a live issue all summer. Tottenham have been circling, and Manchester City have now joined the conversation. Romano reports that both clubs remain in constant contact to gauge Liverpool’s stance and the player’s situation.

Tottenham, crucially, already have an agreement with Gakpo, while his agents are also holding talks with Man City. The framework is there for a move if Liverpool decide to cash in.

That decision will shape the rest of Liverpool’s window out wide. The club have been exploring options for a second winger, with bids turned down for Yankuba Minteh and enquiries made over Ismaila Sarr. Those pursuits are effectively on standby until Gakpo’s future becomes clear.

Romano’s line is simple: if Gakpo goes – to Spurs or City – Liverpool will push to bring in another winger on top of Barcola. If he stays, they are prepared to go into the season with their current attacking group, now headlined by their blockbuster signing from PSG.
