Liverpool's 2027 Signing of Teen Striker Djylian N'Guessan

Liverpool are trying to fight on two fronts at once this summer: sharpen the squad for now, and quietly lock down the next generation. The latest move lands firmly in the second category.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign St Etienne striker Djylian N'Guessan – but the teenager will not arrive at Anfield until the summer of 2027. A deal is in place with the French club and, crucially, on the player’s side as well, with N'Guessan authorised to undergo a medical.

The fee remains under wraps, yet the intention is clear. Liverpool are building a forward line for the long haul.

This comes at the end of a window that could yet catch fire on Merseyside. A transfer for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is understood to be agreed, pending official confirmation, as Liverpool look to add another option to their current attacking mix. Supporters, understandably, are still pushing for more immediate first-team reinforcements before the deadline bites.

At the same time, the club’s recruitment team has been busy plotting years ahead. Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans has already been secured in a deal worth €35 million, with the highly rated youngster scheduled to join next summer. N'Guessan now follows as another long-range investment, this time with a 2027 start date.

Who is Djylian N'Guessan?

The forward only recently turned 18. Primarily a centre-forward, he can also operate in the wide areas, giving him the kind of positional flexibility modern managers crave. He has already broken into St Etienne’s senior side, making 13 appearances, several of them in the 2024–25 season.

Most of his minutes, though, have come with Saint Etienne’s B team and under-19s, where he has been allowed to develop away from the harshest glare. Internationally, he is capped up to under-20 level for his country, another marker of how highly he is regarded in youth circles.

For now, Liverpool will watch from a distance. Staying at St Etienne should give N'Guessan the regular football and responsibility he would struggle to find at Anfield at 18. If his development continues on the same trajectory, by 2027 he will walk into a very different Liverpool squad, one that may be ready for a new face to lead the line.
