Liverpool Targets Ismaila Sarr with £50m Bid as Winger Hunt Intensifies

Liverpool’s long, restless search for Mohamed Salah’s successor has swung towards Selhurst Park. Fabrizio Romano says the club have sent a proposal worth around £50m to Crystal Palace for Ismaila Sarr – and the Senegal winger is keen on the move.

This is no isolated punt. It’s the latest turn in a summer-long chase for wide firepower after Salah’s departure to Trabzonspor ripped a hole in Liverpool’s right flank.

Salah out, targets missed, pressure rising

Victor Munoz arrived from Osasuna earlier in the window as the first winger through the door, but Liverpool always wanted more than one option. The plan was clear: rebuild the attack in layers, not patches.

Yan Diomande was the first major target. Liverpool even lodged a bid. Then reality bit. The Ivorian preferred other destinations and eventually signed for Real Madrid, leaving Liverpool to reset and reshuffle.

Bradley Barcola quickly climbed to the top of their winger shortlist. He operates off the left, but Liverpool’s staff see his profile as too good to ignore, even as they scour the market for a more natural right-sided threat to step into Salah’s old corridor.

Minteh talks stall, Brighton stand firm

For the right flank, Yankuba Minteh looked like the answer. Twice Liverpool bid for the Brighton winger this month. Twice they were knocked back.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Brighton have now set their price at around £80m – a figure Liverpool regard as excessive. He revealed that a previous £60m offer was viewed inside Anfield as competitive, but Brighton still rejected it, and that stance has effectively shut the door on a third attempt unless the valuation drops.

Romano then underlined the shift. He stated that negotiations for Minteh had “gone cold” over the last 24 hours, with Liverpool exploring alternative options for a second winger while keeping Barcola as their “first priority”.

The pressure finally told. With Brighton unmoved and Minteh out of reach, Liverpool turned to a player who has long been on Premier League radars: Ismaila Sarr.

Liverpool move for Sarr as Palace hold firm

Romano has now revealed that Liverpool have opened talks with Crystal Palace and sent a proposal worth around £50m for Sarr. The 26-year-old is described as keen on the move, but Palace are not easy sellers.

The London club have already rejected two bids from Galatasaray for the Senegal international. Romano reported last week that Sarr had agreed personal terms with the Turkish side and was actively pushing to leave Selhurst Park, only for Palace to hold their line with no club-to-club agreement.

That tension spilled into the weekend. Sarr was left out of the Palace squad for their 2-0 defeat to Everton, a decision that instantly sparked speculation over his future.

Sage’s explanation

Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage moved to calm the noise around Sarr’s omission, insisting it was a medical call rather than a transfer statement.

“It’s normal (the panic from fans) because two days ago, I said he will play,” Sage said after the defeat. “Yesterday, we made a medical point with the doctor of the club, the player and me.

“We have chosen that he cannot play because for the moment he’s not really 100%. That’s why we didn’t want to take a risk.”

Even so, the backdrop is impossible to ignore. Romano has been clear that Sarr wants out, that he has been pushing for a move, and that Palace have so far resisted both his wishes and Galatasaray’s offers.

Now Liverpool have entered the scene with a Premier League-sized bid and a glaring vacancy on the right wing.

Barcola remains the top priority, Minteh has drifted out of reach, and Sarr is suddenly at the centre of one of the window’s most intriguing late moves. The question now is simple: will Palace blink, or will Liverpool be forced back into the market yet again with the season already looming?
