Lucas Bergvall Signs New Contract with Tottenham

Lucas Bergvall has ended the speculation over his future by signing a new contract with Tottenham, nailing his colours firmly to the Spurs mast.

The 20-year-old midfielder, already a key figure in north London, has racked up 80 appearances in all competitions and forced his way into the Sweden setup with 14 senior caps, including an outing at this summer’s World Cup. His trajectory has been steep, and rival clubs noticed.

Nottingham Forest and Newcastle both circled during the window, sensing an opportunity to prise him away. Instead, Bergvall chose to stay put and double down on the project under Roberto De Zerbi.

“I think we’re building something great here,” Bergvall said after signing. “It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract.

“Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team – performances, goals and assists – to help as much as I can. I’m getting better every day in training and I’m looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead.”

De Zerbi, who has already started to shape Tottenham in his own image, made it clear how highly he rates the young Swede’s mindset as much as his talent.

“Every day in training you can see Lucas’ desire to learn, improve and push himself to the highest level,” the Spurs boss said. “Lucas is brave, he wants responsibility and has the personality to play in big moments.

“I believe his best football is still ahead of him and we want to give Lucas the platform to reach his full potential.”

For a club intent on building around hungry, progressive talent, tying down Bergvall is more than a routine contract extension. It’s a statement about who Spurs want to be – and who they expect to lead them there.
