Luka Modric Commits to AC Milan Until 2027 at Age 40

Luka Modric, now 40, has decided to stay with AC Milan by signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until mid-2027. The Italian side revealed the news on their official platforms, confirming that the Croatian midfielder has put pen to paper well before his previous deal expired on June 30, 2026.

Continuing Beyond Expectations

Modric was free to move on after his contract ended but chose to commit himself for another year despite turning 41 this summer. Earlier, he had suggested he would wait until after the 2026 World Cup to decide his future. The former Ballon d'Or winner is showing no signs of slowing down.

“Since joining, Luka has been pivotal in AC Milan’s midfield. He has contributed his experience and skills with humility and passion, both on and off the field,” stated the club.

The club added that Modric remains one of football’s most iconic figures and that he will continue wearing the number 14 shirt as he aims to reach new milestones with the Rossoneri.

A New Chapter Under Rúben Amorim

Modric’s decision comes as AC Milan embarks on a fresh era under the leadership of head coach Rúben Amorim. The Portuguese manager has been brought in to guide the team into this new phase.

Modric’s Impact Since Joining Milan

After concluding a distinguished spell at Real Madrid, Modric moved to AC Milan on a free transfer in summer 2025. He immediately became a key player, appearing in 37 competitive matches during his debut season, scoring twice, and assisting three times.

Internationally, he played in all four of Croatia’s games at the 2026 World Cup, although their campaign ended in the round of 16 against Portugal, the team that defeated them in the 2018 final.
