Manchester City Secure Ayyoub Bouaddi in €100m Deal

Manchester City have beaten a host of European rivals, including Liverpool, to the signing of 18-year-old Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi in a deal worth up to €100 million.

City have struck an agreement with the French club that will see them pay an initial €95m, with a further €5m in add-ons, as they move aggressively to reshape their midfield after the departure of Rodri and the sale of Bernardo Silva.

From World Cup breakout to €100m bet

Bouaddi’s rise has been rapid. The teenager lit up this year’s World Cup with Morocco, catching the eye of scouts and pundits across the tournament. Liverpool were among the clubs heavily linked earlier in the summer, but City have moved decisively to close the deal before the window shuts.

Lille had hoped to keep him for at least one more season and held out for a major fee. City eventually met that demand, convinced that the 18-year-old can anchor their midfield for the next decade.

The level of belief in his talent has been clear for some time. During the World Cup, Arsenal great Patrick Vieira offered a glowing assessment on The Rest Is Football.

“Really impressive — he’s only 18, but he plays like a 30-year-old,” Vieira said, praising Bouaddi’s tactical awareness, positioning and calmness under pressure. “He’s got the technical ability to play out from the back and a really strong personality. I quite like the midfield three from Morocco, but of course, he’s the talent in this team.”

Those words now frame one of the boldest investments of the summer.

City’s midfield rebuild gathers pace

Bouaddi becomes the latest major piece in City’s overhaul in the middle of the pitch. Elliot Anderson has already arrived for a club-record £116 million, and the Moroccan now follows as the next cornerstone of a new-look engine room.

Rodri’s exit left a glaring hole at the base of midfield. Bernardo Silva’s departure stripped away creativity and control. City’s response has been to go younger, more dynamic, and very expensive.

Bouaddi will sign a five-year contract with the option of a sixth, a clear signal that City view him not as a project on the fringes but as a long-term pillar under Enzo Maresca.

The new manager inherits the impossible job: stepping into Pep Guardiola’s shadow. The club’s recruitment drive is designed to make that transition as smooth as possible.

Maresca wants more — and City are still pushing

City are not done. The club want at least one more midfielder through the door before the window closes.

Tijjani Reijnders left in the past week, and the hierarchy are determined that every key departure is matched by a signing. Maresca has been promised backing; the final day of the window is turning that promise into a frantic reality.

Enzo Fernandez remains a major target, though Chelsea are expected to resist anything under around $130 million. Roma’s Manu Kone is also on City’s list, with talks and calculations running late into the window as they try to give Maresca the depth and variety he needs.

For now, though, the headline is clear. The club that once built around David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne is now entrusting its future to an 18-year-old who plays, in Vieira’s words, like he’s 30.

City have paid the price to find out if Ayyoub Bouaddi really is that good.
