Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi Nears Manchester City Transfer as Rodri Eyes Barcelona Move
Davide Ancelotti, manager of Lille, has confirmed ongoing discussions with Manchester City over the transfer of young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The Moroccan talent is reportedly set to join City after agreeing personal terms, amid an accelerated midfield overhaul led by new coach Enzo Maresca.
Ancelotti Acknowledges Interest and Talks
Following Lille's final preseason match against Everton, Ancelotti spoke openly about the situation surrounding Bouaddi. The negotiations gained momentum the same day City fell 3-0 to Arsenal in the Community Shield, a match marking Maresca’s first competitive game after taking over from Pep Guardiola. Notably, Rodri was left out of City's squad, fueling speculation about his imminent transfer to Barcelona.
Ancelotti said: "Of course, there are negotiations. There is interest from many clubs. He is a really, really good player and I hope that he is going to stay with us! What makes him so special? He has a huge personality. He is incredibly intelligent on and off the pitch, he is really mature. He is 18 years old but he looks like he is 32 when he is on the pitch. Technically he is really complete. He is also physical, really strong in duels. He’s going to be one of the best midfielders in Europe for the next 10 years."
Transfer Details and Next Steps
Lille initially valued Bouaddi at around €100 million, but Manchester City are aiming for a fee closer to €80 million. The player himself prefers to move immediately this summer rather than waiting until 2027. Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on social media that personal terms between Bouaddi and City have already been agreed, making the transfer close to completion.
With Rodri edging nearer to a switch to Barcelona, securing Bouaddi is a key part of Maresca's strategy to rebuild City's midfield. The club now intends to finalize payment terms and bonuses with Lille in the coming days. After their recent defeat, City want to incorporate Bouaddi into their squad quickly ahead of the new Premier League season.
