Manchester City Triumph Over Spurs to Sign Ndiaye on Deadline Day

Manchester City did not just win the race for Ndiaye. They snatched it out of Tottenham’s hands at the finish line.

On the final day of the transfer window, City agreed a £65m deal with Everton for the Senegal international, as reported by The Athletic. The package is built around an initial £60m fee with a further £5m in potential add-ons – serious money for a player who instantly becomes a key part of their attacking refresh.

Tottenham had believed they were in a strong position. After failing to prise Cody Gakpo away from Liverpool, Spurs had switched their attention to Ndiaye, a forward admired in north London and in Manchester alike. City had tracked Gakpo too, but when that door closed, they moved with trademark ruthlessness.

The pressure finally told. City stepped in, accelerated talks and closed the deal before Spurs could respond.

“It’s easy to make the decision about whether you want to be at Manchester City or not,” the 26-year-old said after signing. “You can see the recent history; you want to be part of that project.”

“They talked to me about where we could go, what we could achieve with me in the team, and I was interested from the beginning,” he explained. “There was nothing else that I wanted other than joining Manchester City.”

This is a player arriving with conviction, not caution. Ndiaye spoke about a club he already feels aligned with, a project he believes he can elevate as much as it elevates him.

“Obviously, you want to be part of this new project. I’ve seen recently what they’ve been doing, and I feel like I will fit right in it,” he said. “I’m super excited to start. It’s an unbelievable moment. I’ve worked so hard to get to this point and I’m super excited and really grateful for this opportunity.”

For City, Ndiaye’s capture was only half of an extraordinary late surge in the market.

On the same day, they completed the £125m signing of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, a fee that matches the British transfer record. The deal reunites the Argentine with manager Enzo Maresca and underlines just how aggressively City have chosen to reshape the spine of their side.

Two major signings. Nearly £200m committed. A statement, even by their standards.

Tottenham, by contrast, were left scrambling. Beaten to Gakpo. Beaten to Ndiaye. A window that had promised a marquee attacking addition suddenly looked threadbare.
