Manchester City Signs Young Midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi

Manchester City have landed one of Europe’s most coveted young midfielders, completing the signing of Moroccan international Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille on a five-year deal.

The 18-year-old has signed a contract that runs until 2031, subject to international clearance, and walks into the Etihad Stadium with a body of work that belies his age: 96 senior appearances for Lille and eight caps for Morocco already on his CV.

“This is a very special day for me and my family,” Bouaddi said after signing. “Manchester City are, for me, the best Club in the world. It’s a dream to be here and be able to call myself a City player. I’ve watched City for many years, and I love their style of play. The squad is world-class and Enzo is a top manager.”

The words are familiar from a new signing, but the context is not. Bouaddi is stepping into a midfield stacked with technical quality, into a club that expects to fight for every trophy it enters. There is no soft landing at the Etihad. You either rise to the level, or the level moves past you.

Director of Football Hugo Viana made it clear this was not a snap decision.

“Ayyoub’s potential is extremely high – a player equipped with everything a top midfielder needs. At just 18, he already has outstanding football intelligence and that will only improve under the guidance of Enzo.”

The club have tracked his rise closely, from early flashes in Ligue 1 to his command in international football. The conclusion was the same each time: vision, press resistance, range of passing, and the courage to take the ball in tight spaces. Traits that fit City’s style like a glove.

That “football intelligence” Viana highlighted will be tested and sharpened under Enzo Maresca, a coach who demands control, precision and bravery in possession from his midfielders.

For Maresca, Bouaddi offers an elegant, ball-playing option who can operate at the base of midfield or step higher to connect play. City’s structure places huge responsibility on those central roles; they must protect, create and dictate all at once.

Bouaddi has already shown he can handle that kind of burden in France. England, and the Premier League’s relentless pace, is the next examination.
