Manchester City Signs Brazilian Winger Allan Elias

Manchester City have made their sixth signing of the summer, completing a deal for highly rated Brazilian winger Allan Elias from Palmeiras on a five-year contract.

The 22-year-old arrives from the Sao Paulo club’s academy conveyor belt, where he broke into the first team and went on to make 96 senior appearances. City are understood to be paying around €40 million ($47 million) for the forward, underlining how highly they rate him.

“Allan is a really exciting player, and we think he will be a big addition to the squad,” City’s Director of Football Hugo Viana said in a statement on Monday. “He has shown throughout his short career so far that he will fight to be the best he can be.”

The move continues a busy window for City. Elliot Anderson, Geronimo Rulli, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Jeremy Monga and Pierce Charles have already come through the door, and Allan’s arrival adds more pace and flair to the attacking options.

For the player himself, the step is enormous.

“This is a surreal moment for me. Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players,” Allan said.

“To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life. I love Palmeiras and always will — but the decision to come to City was an easy one.”

Born in Florianopolis, Elias now joins a growing line of Brazilians to wear City blue. He spoke openly about wanting to follow the path carved out by Gabriel Jesus, Ederson and Fernandinho, all of whom lifted Premier League titles at the Etihad.

His challenge is clear: become “another good Brazilian” in the Premier League and write his own chapter in City’s modern era.
