Manchester United Completes £70m Deal for Carlos Baleba
Manchester United have pushed their summer rebuild up another gear, agreeing a deal worth up to £70m with Brighton for midfielder Carlos Baleba.
A breakthrough in talks on Friday evening unlocked the move, clearing the way for the 22-year-old to undergo a medical ahead of a switch to Old Trafford. Once the final details are completed, United will have their third new midfielder through the door in this window.
United will pay an initial £65m, with a further £5m tied to performance-related add-ons. Brighton have also secured a sell-on clause, ensuring they will profit again if Baleba earns a future big-money move.
The Cameroon international became a prime target this week as United chose to reinforce the heart of their team yet again, even after landing Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa earlier in the window.
United’s midfield is being ripped up and rebuilt at speed. Baleba is the latest piece. The question now is how quickly he can turn that investment into control and bite in the centre of the pitch at Old Trafford.
