Vitek set for permanent Middlesbrough move

Radek Vitek, long viewed as one of the more promising young stoppers at Old Trafford, is closing in on a permanent move to Middlesbrough.

Ben Jacobs reported on X that Boro are “close to signing Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek,” noting that the 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Bristol City, is chasing regular first-team minutes. talkSPORT echoed that line, stating Middlesbrough are “closing in on the permanent signing” of the Czech goalkeeper.

United have not disclosed a fee. However, an earlier report from the Daily Mail suggested the club would look for around £10m to part with Vitek this summer. If the final figure lands anywhere near that mark, it represents a serious statement of faith from Middlesbrough in a player yet to establish himself in the Premier League.

For United, it is another example of a strategic clear-out. Vitek was one of six players recently flagged by The Athletic as possible departures before the window shuts, alongside fellow goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, full-back Harry Amass, midfielder Toby Collyer and forwards Joshua Zirkzee and Ethan Wheatley.

The club’s recruitment drive has centred on one more midfielder to complete a rebuild in the middle of the park, with a left-back also on the agenda. Any move for a left-winger or striker is understood to depend on big-name exits, with Marcus Rashford and Zirkzee the key dominoes. Bayindir to Celta Vigo: Romano’s ‘here we go’

While Vitek edges towards Teesside, Altay Bayindir is heading for La Liga.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Wednesday morning that Celta Vigo have struck a deal with United to sign the Turkey international on loan, dropping his trademark “here we go” to seal it. The agreement includes a €4m buy option, with the final fee set to fluctuate based on appearances.

Bayindir has been authorised to travel for his medical and to sign the paperwork with the Spanish club. It draws a line under a short and largely anonymous spell at Old Trafford, where opportunities never truly opened up for him.
