Manchester United's Transfer Plans: Three More Signings Possible

Manchester United are not done yet. Not by a long way.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has outlined three more potential signings that could still walk through the doors at Old Trafford before the window slams shut, as Michael Carrick quietly pushes for the final pieces of his squad.

United have already moved with intent. Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow headline a busy summer so far, giving Carrick fresh options in midfield and in goal. After that early flurry, the noise around incomings dipped. The work behind the scenes has not.

Midfielder, left-back… and maybe a striker

United’s plan has been clear for weeks: rebuild the heart of the team. Tielemans and Santos have boosted the engine room, but the club are still hunting a third midfielder to complete that reshaping.

At the same time, recruitment staff are scouring the market for a left-back to support – and challenge – Luke Shaw. Cover in that area has been flagged as a priority, and Romano insists that search is active.

Then comes the twist. Under the right conditions, a new striker could also arrive.

“Michael Carrick said today that we can do something special this season, which shows the ambition inside Manchester United,” Romano said on his YouTube channel, outlining the manager’s stance.

On the squad, Carrick has been publicly upbeat. He believes the group is “very good and well balanced”, but he has also admitted there are “one or two positions” the club are still working on. The message is optimistic, but not complacent.

Romano joined the dots.

“We already know about the search for a left-back and a third midfielder, while something could also happen in attack if the right opportunity appears,” he explained. He expects United “to do more business before the window closes.”

The pressure is now on the club to turn that expectation into signatures.

Carrick’s faith in Rashford

Transfers are only half the story. The other half is what Carrick does with what he already has – and that starts with Marcus Rashford.

Romano revealed that Carrick’s glowing public comments about Rashford mirror his private stance. The United boss has spoken warmly about the forward since his return to the club, stressing his importance to the project.

“Carrick also spoke very positively about Marcus Rashford,” Romano said. “He said Rashford arrived in a very good mood, can give the team something different and something special, and that he knows the player very well.

“I am told those positive messages have also been consistent in private, so Carrick is more than happy to continue with Marcus Rashford.”

No mixed signals. No ambiguity. Rashford remains central to Carrick’s plans, even as United toy with the idea of adding another striker.

Mainoo’s World Cup lesson

Carrick has also turned his attention to Kobbie Mainoo, whose World Cup experience with England came without a single minute on the pitch. From the outside, that could look like a missed opportunity. Carrick does not see it that way.

“I spoke to him all the way through the World Cup, not loads, but little bits,” Carrick said, lifting the lid on their conversations.

“It’s challenging. From the outside we all see the glitz, the glamour and all the positive sides of football.

“But players are human beings. We all have our ups and downs. It’s important we support each other.

“It was a good experience for Kobbie. It’s a World Cup and that is a big step.

“He’s still such a young man and he’s achieved so much, so quickly. To be at the stage he’s at is an achievement.”

Carrick’s words underline the culture he is trying to build: ambitious, demanding, but protective of his young core. Mainoo’s lack of minutes is framed as education, not failure.

So United move into the final weeks of the window with three clear threads: a squad already strengthened, a manager backing his key stars, and a recruitment drive still live for a midfielder, a left-back and possibly a striker.
