Marc Cucurella Makes Debut for Real Madrid: A Landmark Moment
Marc Cucurella finally pulled on the Real Madrid shirt in anger, stepping into a pre-season win that felt far more important to him than the scoreline on the board.
The Spanish defender made his first appearance for Los Blancos in their victory over Schalke 04 at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, coming off the bench in the 61st minute to taste his first minutes of the summer. For the team, it was another solid rehearsal. For Cucurella, it was a landmark.
A long wait, a short but vital cameo
The game arrived as Real Madrid put the final touches on their preparations before the League campaign begins, and Cucurella’s introduction came with the contest under control but far from pedestrian. He slotted in, got on the ball, and did what he needed to do: feel the pace, feel the shirt, feel the level.
After the final whistle, the relief and joy were obvious.
"I am very happy," he told Realmadrid TV, still riding the adrenaline of his debut. "I think it was a great match for everyone and a great result before starting the League. These were my first minutes, and I’m very eager. The wait was long, but now, little by little, I’m getting into rhythm and looking forward to starting the League."
The message was clear: this was not just a friendly for him. It was the end of a wait and the start of a new reality.
Settling into a star-studded dressing room
Cucurella highlighted how quickly the squad has helped him adapt. Dropping into a dressing room full of established names can be daunting; he made it sound almost natural.
"Very good. I think with these teammates, everything is easier," he said. "These were the first minutes of the season, and little by little, I’m finding my rhythm, and soon the real competition begins."
He did not hide the work behind the moment either. Years of pushing, of trying to reach this level, condensed into a few sentences.
"I am very happy. Behind all this, there is a lot of work, and all the effort I’ve put in over the years has been worth it. I’m very happy with everything that’s happening to me, and I hope it continues this way - winning titles and, above all, being able to enjoy this experience."
Inside the camp, he already feels a strong core.
"They are really good people. I think they make it very easy for everyone to adapt," he explained. "The important thing is to have a good group so that it shows on the field that we are united. That’s how you win."
Fans, expectations and the road ahead
Even before his first touch in white, the supporters had found him. Messages, encouragement, demands – all part of the package at a club of this size.
"I’ve received many messages, and I will always try to give my best in every minute I have," Cucurella said. "I think the most important thing, and what we all want, is to win titles with this jersey."
One debut down, the friendlies almost done, the League looming. For Real Madrid, this was another step in pre-season. For Cucurella, it felt like the first stride in what he clearly expects to be a title-winning journey.
