Tomás Mastantuono did not just arrive in Serie A. He kicked the door down.

On loan from Real Madrid and still a teenager, the Argentine winger produced a stunning hat-trick for Fiorentina on Friday night, dragging his new team to a 4-2 win away at Venezia and straight into the record books.

At 19 years and 28 days, Mastantuono is now the youngest Argentine ever to score a hat-trick in one of Europe’s top five leagues, eclipsing none other than Lionel Messi. The Barcelona icon hit his first treble against Real Madrid in March 2007; Mastantuono has beaten that landmark by an extraordinary 231 days.

For Fiorentina, the timing could not have been better. The Viola arrived in Venice without a point this season and under pressure. They left with their first win of the campaign, a vital away result that lifts them up to 15th in the Serie A table. They left, too, with a new hero.

As Venezia pushed late on, chasing an equaliser, Mastantuono struck again six minutes from time to complete his hat-trick and kill the contest. A historic treble, a statement performance, and a reminder of why Europe’s giants fought so hard for his signature.

This is the version of Mastantuono many in Argentina have been waiting to see. He burst onto the scene at River Plate, making his senior debut at just 16 and instantly being tagged as one of the brightest prospects in world football. Real Madrid moved quickly in the summer of 2025, beating Paris Saint-Germain to his signing and handing him a six-year deal. That same month, he became the youngest player to represent the Argentina national team.

Then came the reality check.

His first season at the Bernabéu was a grind. Limited impact, limited rhythm, and the weight of expectation every time he pulled on the shirt. Three goals in 35 appearances told its own story. For a player used to accelerating through every level, that return felt like a standstill.

The consequences were brutal. Mastantuono missed out on Argentina’s World Cup squad, a blow that underlined how far his stock had slipped in just a year.

That is why this loan to Fiorentina matters so much. Italy offers space away from the glare of Madrid, but still on a stage big enough to test and prove him. Already, he has matched last season’s goal tally for Madrid in just five games across all competitions for the Viola.

This hat-trick does more than win a match in Venice. It restores belief. It suggests that the raw, fearless teenager from River Plate is resurfacing in Serie A colours, sharper, angrier, and with a point to prove.

If he keeps finishing like this, the questions will not be about whether he returns to Madrid or re-enters the Argentina setup. The only question will be how long anyone can keep a talent like this out.
