Kylian Mbappe Matches Raul’s Champions League Goal Record in Real Madrid Win Over Inter
Kylian Mbappe netted his 71st Champions League goal, helping Real Madrid secure a 2-1 victory against Inter at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid Takes an Early Lead
The France captain scored the opening goal in the 14th minute with a precise finish from inside the box, putting Madrid ahead. Just nine minutes later, Federico Valverde doubled the lead after Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez lost control of a back pass from Benjamin Pavard, allowing Valverde to tap the ball into an empty net.
Inter Fight Back Late but Fall Short
The Nerazzurri pressed hard for a comeback and managed to pull one back in the 77th minute through Carlos Augusto. Despite creating late pressure, Inter could not find an equalizer, and Madrid held on for the win.
Mbappe’s Historic Milestone
Mbappe’s goal marked his 71st in just 99 Champions League appearances, placing him joint-fifth on the competition’s all-time scoring list alongside Madrid legend Raul, who reached the same tally in 142 games. Only four players have more goals: Cristiano Ronaldo leads with 140, followed by Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, and Karim Benzema.
Courtois Shines on 100th Champions League Appearance
Thibaut Courtois marked his 100th appearance in the competition with key saves, denying early chances from Hakan Calhanoglu and Lautaro Martinez. The match featured numerous chances, including a double save by Martinez and a shot hitting the post for Inter. Former Liverpool player Curtis Jones also rattled the crossbar.
