He then turned provider after the break. A precise cross found Casemiro, who rose and powered home a header for Miami’s second, giving the side the cushion it wanted and effectively killing off Cruz Azul’s hopes of a comeback.

The win adds yet another piece of silverware to Messi’s Miami chapter. Inter Miami had already lifted the Leagues Cup in 2023, followed that with the Supporters’ Shield in 2024, and then claimed the MLS Cup in 2025. Now the Campeones Cup joins an increasingly crowded trophy cabinet.

This season is shaping up to be just as demanding—and just as promising.

Inter Miami sits second in the Eastern Conference on 45 points, nine behind Nashville SC in the race for the No. 1 seed. A postseason collision between those two clubs in the Eastern Conference Final would surprise no one given their current trajectories.

Miami has already shown it knows how to navigate knockout football. And with Messi orchestrating from the front, any playoff matchup comes with a warning label for the opposition.
