Mikey Moore Nears Cologne Loan as Tottenham Revamps Squad

Mikey Moore is on the verge of swapping north London for the Rhine. According to Bild, 1. FC Cologne are close to securing the 19-year-old Tottenham Hotspur winger on loan, with a basic agreement with the player in place for some time.

The decisive push has now come from Spurs coach Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian, who had initially blocked a move because he wanted Moore in his Premier League squad, has given the green light for a temporary switch.

From Brentford starter to loan candidate

Only days ago, Moore looked firmly embedded in De Zerbi’s plans. The teenager started Tottenham’s Premier League opener, a sobering 3-0 defeat to Brentford, and was thrown straight into the intensity of English top-flight football.

De Zerbi did not spare him in the post-match analysis. The coach, clearly unhappy with his side’s disjointed display, highlighted Moore’s role in Spurs’ flawed pressing game.

"We were not ready to win the duels. We made a lot of mistakes in the pressing with Mikey Moore," he said, underlining both the trust placed in the youngster and the growing pains that come with it.

Behind the scenes, though, De Zerbi has been pushing hard for reinforcements. He has repeatedly stressed the need for fresh blood, and now the squad picture at Spurs is about to change dramatically.

€185 million shake-up at Spurs

English outlets report that Tottenham have agreed a deal with Manchester City for Savinho and Omar Marmoush, a double swoop worth a reported €185 million in transfer fees.

Under Pep Guardiola’s successor Enzo Maresca, both players have barely featured for the Sky Blues. At Spurs, they are expected to walk straight into the attacking rotation, easing the pressure on youngsters like Moore and freeing the club to sanction his departure.

Once those deals are finalised, the path to Cologne should be clear.

The Cologne plan: Moore as Kaminski’s heir

Cologne have a specific role in mind. Moore is expected to slot into the vacancy left by Jakub Kaminski, who has joined Benfica Lisbon, operating primarily on the right wing.

Cologne had previously failed to find an agreement with BVB and others for alternative targets; Moore now emerges as their solution.
