Milan Rejects Coventry's €10 Million Bid for Loftus-Cheek

Milan have slammed the door on Coventry City’s attempt to prise Ruben Loftus-Cheek back to England, rejecting a €10 million offer for the midfielder, according to Tuttosport.

The newly promoted Premier League side had marked the 30-year-old out as a cornerstone signing for their return to the top flight, but ran straight into a brick wall in Milan. The Rossoneri dismissed the bid quickly and decisively, making it clear they have no intention of letting him go.

Amorim draws a line

Rúben Amorim didn’t just influence the decision – he drove it. The new Milan coach is understood to have personally blocked Loftus-Cheek’s exit, convinced the Englishman will be central to his plans for the entire 2026-27 season.

Amorim is said to be particularly enamoured with the midfielder’s tactical flexibility. Loftus-Cheek can operate between the lines, link play, and adapt to different roles within the Portuguese coach’s preferred system. For a manager building a fresh project at San Siro, that kind of profile is non-negotiable.

So the answer to Coventry was simple: no sale. Not this summer.

Lampard reunion shut down

The refusal also kills off a storyline that would have written itself. Frank Lampard, now in charge at Coventry, had pushed hard to reunite with a player he knows well from their Chelsea days. Loftus-Cheek enjoyed some of his most dynamic spells in a blue shirt under Lampard, and the manager had identified him as a leader for Coventry’s ambitious first season back in the Premier League.

Instead, Lampard is left looking elsewhere, and Loftus-Cheek prepares for another year in Serie A.

Established force in Milan’s midfield

This will be his fourth straight campaign in Italy’s top flight. Loftus-Cheek arrived at Milan from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 in a permanent €19 million deal and has since carved out a reputation as a dependable, physically imposing figure in the Rossoneri midfield.

He brings power, ball-carrying and presence in central areas, and has grown into a trusted option through different tactical tweaks and personnel changes. That reliability is precisely why Milan are so reluctant to entertain offers now, especially with a new coach eager to shape the team around key pillars.

Contract clock still ticking

Yet the story doesn’t end with a rejected bid. Loftus-Cheek has less than a year left on his current deal at San Siro, a reality that hangs over Milan’s firm stance. Keep him now, risk losing him for nothing next summer.

That is the calculation facing the Milan hierarchy. Without a contract extension, the club could watch a valuable asset walk away on a free at the end of the season. With Amorim clearly intent on keeping him at the heart of his system, the next move is obvious but delicate: open renewal talks, or accept that this defiant “no” to Coventry might be followed by an even more costly goodbye in a year’s time.
