St Patrick's Athletic vs Bohemians: FAI Cup Quarter-Final Showdown

St Patrick's Athletic have been handed another Dublin derby in the Club Orange FAI Cup – and this one comes with a heavy dose of recent history.

Fresh from dumping out holders Shamrock Rovers last Sunday, the Saints will host Bohemians in the quarter-finals, a straight rerun of the 2023 decider. The Richmond Park crowd will not need reminding how big this fixture feels in the cup. Same opponents, same stage of the competition’s drama, but this time with a place in the semi-finals on the line rather than the trophy itself.

Bohemians, the Gypsies, must now walk back into the ground where Pat's have just taken the scalp of the champions. For Jon Daly’s side, the draw offers both a reward and a test: knock out Rovers, then back it up against another fierce rival or risk seeing that statement win fade quickly in the rear-view mirror.

Other Quarter-Finals

On the other side of the draw, Derry City and Dundalk collide at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium. It’s a tie steeped in league history, now given a cup edge as both clubs chase a route to silverware in a season where consistency has often eluded them.

The remaining two quarter-finals bring the league’s strugglers centre stage. Drogheda United will welcome Galway United, while a resurgent Waterford FC get home advantage at the RSC against Sligo Rovers. For those four, the cup offers something the league table does not: a clean slate and a shot at a deep run.

All four ties are scheduled for the weekend of 4–6 September, with RTÉ Sport set to televise two of the games. By the end of that weekend, the semi-final line-up will be set – and one Dublin giant will be gone.
