Milan Targets Ruben Dias in Leao Swap Deal

Jorge Mendes is again at the centre of Milan’s transfer plans, and this time the target is as big as it gets: Ruben Dias.

According to Sport Mediaset, the super agent is exploring a sensational swap that would send Rafael Leao plus a cash fee to Manchester City, with the Portugal defender moving to San Siro.

Leao on the market, Dias the dream

Milan’s stance on Leao has shifted. His contract runs until 2028, but the club have struggled to find anyone willing to meet their asking price of around €50m plus add-ons. The feeling around Casa Milan is clear: a new solution is needed, and quickly.

That is where Mendes steps in. He has already shaped much of Milan’s summer, bringing in new coach Ruben Amorim, securing striker Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain and now overseeing the arrival of Diego Moreira from RC Strasbourg. On this latest mission, he reportedly spent the entire afternoon at the club’s headquarters.

The next move on his board? Propose Leao to Manchester City as part of a package to land Dias.

Amorim wants a leader at the back

Milan have already strengthened in defence with Mario Gila from Lazio, but Amorim’s system demands more than numbers. It needs defenders who can read the game, dominate space and build play under pressure. Dias ticks every box.

The Portugal international turned 29 in May, right in the sweet spot of experience and peak physical condition. Since joining Manchester City from Benfica in 2020 for €71.6m, he has become one of the pillars of Pep Guardiola’s back line and is tied to the Premier League champions until June 2029.

Prising him away will not be easy. City rarely sell their core players, and Real Madrid have also been linked with a possible move for Dias this summer. Any deal would require not just Leao, but a substantial fee on top.

Still, Mendes has made a career out of bending the market to his will. If he can really turn Leao into Dias, Milan’s entire defensive outlook – and perhaps their season – changes overnight.
