Nasser Al-Shamrani's Warning to Al-Hilal After Opening Win

Nasser Al-Shamrani has fired a sharp warning shot at Al-Hilal, insisting their 4-2 opening-day win over Al-Faisaly in the Roshn League should not fool anyone inside the club.

The club legend believes the result flattered the performance. For him, the same old problems are still staring Simone Inzaghi and his staff in the face.

“Bono saved Al-Hilal”

Speaking on the “Dawrina Ghair” programme, Al-Shamrani was clear: this Al-Hilal side is nowhere near the level its talent demands.

He highlighted Yassine Bono as the key reason the scoreline did not turn ugly. The Moroccan goalkeeper, he said, made a “huge difference” against Al-Faisaly, his saves masking structural flaws that continue to surface.

Bono’s interventions, in Al-Shamrani’s eyes, are bailing the team out too often. With a keeper of that calibre, he argued, Al-Hilal enjoy a wider margin for error than most — and that can be both a blessing and a dangerous illusion.

“Bono’s beauties are too much for Inzaghi,” Al-Shamrani remarked, underlining how often the veteran has dragged the side out of trouble. The concern is simple: what happens on the day he cannot?

Koulibaly under the spotlight

Al-Shamrani also turned his attention to Kalidou Koulibaly, calling the Senegalese defender a central piece in Al-Hilal’s system.

Koulibaly’s performance, he stressed, is not just about the individual. It ripples through the entire team. Defensive stability, especially for a side chasing titles on multiple fronts, shapes everything: how high they can press, how bravely the midfield can play, how much freedom the attackers enjoy.

When that backbone is shaky, the whole structure feels it.

Same mistakes, same alarms

Despite the four goals and the three points, Al-Shamrani was adamant that Al-Hilal “offered nothing new” from a technical standpoint.

The issues that have followed the team under Inzaghi, he argued, are still there. The win, in his view, must not become a shield to hide behind. The performance did not match the club’s ambitions, and the coaching staff now face a major challenge to correct course.

He warned that these flaws need urgent fixing. This season’s competition will be fierce, and the same mistakes that Al-Faisaly could not fully punish may prove far more costly against stronger opponents — even if the results keep coming for now.
