Nottingham Forest Sign Liam Delap from Chelsea for £50 Million

Nottingham Forest have made a major statement in the transfer market, sealing the signing of Liam Delap from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £45 million, with a further £5m tied up in add-ons.

The 23-year-old striker has committed to a long-term contract at the City Ground running until 2031, leaving Stamford Bridge after just a single season. Chelsea, who brought him in from Ipswich Town for around £30m in June 2025, walk away with an instant £20m profit on the deal. Forest, meanwhile, get a forward they believe can lead their attack for years.

Delap hungry for a new stage

Delap arrives in Nottingham talking like a man ready to grab his chance.

"I really can't wait to get started, this is a massive club with a big history," he told club media after the move was confirmed. "I spoke to the manager and I like his way, I think he can be the one to really help me develop and make that next step and hopefully I can bring goals here.

"I can't wait to hear the noise at the City Ground and have the fans on my side because I know how loud and important they are. As a team we can build something really strong and the main aim is to challenge and be a top club in the Premier League."

At Ipswich in the 2024-25 campaign, Delap hit 12 league goals in a struggling side that ultimately went down. He still found ways to hurt teams, driving at back lines with a mix of pace and power that few centre-forwards in the division could match.

He recorded 26 shot-ending carries that season – the highest figure among all Premier League strikers. That number underlines why clubs kept circling: he doesn’t just finish moves, he starts them, drags his team up the pitch, and forces defenders into mistakes.

He also carries a name that English fans know well. The son of former Premier League defender Rory Delap, he has grown up around the demands of the top flight. Forest now want the finished product, not just the promise.

Delap will not walk straight into a guaranteed starting spot. Glasner has built a crowded centre-forward department, and the new arrival drops straight into a four-way fight for the role through the middle.
