The 2029 UEFA Champions League final will be held at Barcelona's newly renovated Nou Camp, ending a 30-year wait for the stadium to host Europe's biggest club match again. Wembley Stadium and Borussia Dortmund's Westfalenstadion were both in contention but ultimately missed out.

Wembley's Recent Hosting History

Since reopening in 2007, Wembley has welcomed three Champions League finals, most recently in 2024. Despite its status as an iconic venue and a regular host of major events, the London stadium failed to secure the 2029 final this time.

Nou Camp's Renovation and Legacy

The Nou Camp is undergoing significant renovations that have impressed UEFA's Executive Committee, which selected it over Wembley and Dortmund's Westfalenstadion—the latter having never hosted the final before. The decision marks a return to a stadium steeped in history, recalling the dramatic 1999 final where Manchester United clinched victory against Bayern Munich with last-minute goals, completing their treble.

"This is an immense source of pride for FC Barcelona and for all Barça supporters," said Barcelona president Joan Laporta. "This decision is also international recognition for the new Spotify Camp Nou, which is establishing itself as a world-class stadium at the forefront of fan experience, technology, connectivity, accessibility, and services."

Wembley and Euro Tournaments

Wembley has been pivotal in European soccer over the last twenty years, hosting three Champions League finals and the 2020 Euro final and semi-finals, which were delayed by the pandemic. The stadium will play a central role again during Euro 2028 across the UK.

Other Upcoming Finals

The 2028 final was awarded to Munich's Allianz Arena, marking its third time hosting the event in 16 years. The Allianz Arena staged the 2027 final just last year when Paris Saint-Germain triumphed over Inter Milan.

Since Wembley's redevelopment, only the London stadium and Bayern's Allianz Arena have hosted three Champions League finals each.

2026 Final Set for Madrid

This season's Champions League final will take place at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, hosting its second final after Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur there in 2019.
