Porto and Roma Clash Over Rodrigo Mora Transfer Terms

Porto and Roma have hit a wall over Rodrigo Mora – and it’s an expensive one.

Talks between the clubs were abruptly cut yesterday morning after Roma refused to sign up to Porto’s demands for the youngster’s buy clause. The Portuguese side set a towering price structure: a €10 million loan fee, a €40 million option to buy, clauses that could quickly turn that option into an obligation, plus performance-related bonuses and a percentage of any future resale.

Roma pushed back. Hard.

The Giallorossi flatly rejected those terms, judging the package excessive, and negotiations stalled. According to Portuguese outlet Ojogo, the atmosphere between the parties is tense, but the transfer is not dead yet. It’s parked, not buried.

Jorge Mendes has stepped in as mediator, trying to bridge the gap, yet there were no direct contacts between Porto and Roma on the day the talks broke off. The silence underlines how far apart the clubs remain on the structure of the deal.

Now the situation is brutally simple for Roma. Either they accept Porto’s framework, with its hefty loan fee and near-inevitable obligation to buy, or they return to the table with an improved proposal on the mandatory purchase terms.

The next move belongs to the Giallorossi.
