Portsmouth Sign Defender Benjamin Arthur on Loan
Portsmouth have moved to strengthen their back line with the season-long loan signing of defender Benjamin Arthur from Premier League side Brentford.
The 20-year-old centre-back arrives at Fratton Park with a taste of top-flight football already behind him. He spent part of last season in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, making six appearances, and has three senior outings to his name for Brentford.
Arthur is also on the England pathway, having been capped up to Under-20 level, and is viewed as a defender with both physical presence and composure in possession.
Head Coach's Comments
"We're thrilled to bring Benjamin here for the season to boost our defensive ranks," he said. "He possesses all the attributes you expect of a centre-back and is also more than comfortable with the ball at his feet.
"Despite his relatively young age, he already has experience of top-flight football, and we feel he can be a real asset as we look to progress in our third season in the Championship."
Arthur now joins a Portsmouth side intent on kicking on after consolidating at Championship level, with his arrival aimed squarely at giving Mousinho more power and poise at the heart of defence.
