Premier League Transfer Window: Final Days of Activity

The Premier League’s summer window is down to its final four days, and the late scramble has truly begun. Squads are being patched, reshaped and, in some cases, ripped open as clubs race the clock before Tuesday’s deadline.

At the top end, the headlines are obvious: Manchester United still want a left-back, Liverpool are pushing ahead with a huge move for Bradley Barcola, and Chelsea could yet lose Enzo Fernandez to a domestic rival. But beneath those blockbusters, the market is crackling with activity.

Brentford land Diouf in big-money deal

Brentford have made one of the day’s most eye-catching moves, sealing the signing of El Hadji Malick Diouf from West Ham United.

The left-back joins for around £40 million and has signed a five-year contract in west London. It’s a serious outlay and a clear statement from Brentford, who continue to invest heavily in defensive reinforcements as they look to stabilise their Premier League status and push higher.

Everton weigh up El Khannouss move

Everton, still juggling ambition with financial reality, are exploring a late swoop for Stuttgart midfielder Bilal El Khannouss, according to Sky Germany.

The Morocco international has attracted interest from several clubs, and Everton are among those assessing whether to move before the deadline. Stuttgart, though, are driving a hard bargain, with a reported asking price of £52m. For a club that has spent the last few windows walking a financial tightrope, that fee would be a huge call.

United prospects on the move

Manchester United’s senior targets remain in focus, but there is movement among their youngsters too.

Midfielder Toby Collyer is close to joining West Bromwich Albion on loan, with talks at an advanced stage for a switch to the Hawthorns before next week’s cut-off. A Championship loan would offer the 20-year-old the regular minutes he cannot get at Old Trafford right now.

Another United talent, Habeeb Ogunneye, is also heading for the exit. Arsenal have been given the green light to sign the youngster on a free transfer, according to football.london. The player has already said his goodbyes, and United have protected themselves with a significant sell-on clause.

United’s striker department is also in flux. The club are in advanced talks with Fiorentina over Joshua Zirkzee, Gazzetta dello Sport report, with a loan fee of £4.2m on the table. It is not yet clear whether the Italian side will have an option to buy at the end of the spell.

With Zirkzee potentially leaving, United are considering Freiburg forward Igor Matanovic as a late replacement. The 6ft 5in striker is on their radar, and Tottenham are also credited with interest as clubs scour the market for size and presence up front.

Chelsea outgoings gather pace

Chelsea’s squad churn shows no sign of slowing.

Mamadou Sarr has completed a loan move to Real Sociedad until the end of the season. The defender travelled to Spain earlier in the week to undergo his medical and finalise the paperwork, and the deal is understood to be a straight loan with no option to buy.

The real shockwave, though, comes from Enzo Fernandez. Manchester City have agreed a £120m fee with Chelsea for the Argentina international, according to TyC Sports. If completed before the deadline, the move would make Fernandez the most expensive midfielder in history, eclipsing the fee paid for Elliot Anderson.

City have reportedly put a contract on the table running until 2032. For Chelsea, who have been open to major sales all summer, sanctioning a deal of this scale inside England would be a huge, and potentially era-defining, decision.

Forest and Milan circle their targets

Nottingham Forest are working on a deal for Brazilian midfielder Andre, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that talks are ongoing with Corinthians over the financial structure of the transfer. Forest have been aggressive in recent windows, and the pursuit of Andre fits their continued push to deepen the squad with technical quality.

In Italy, AC Milan are eyeing the Premier League again. The Serie A giants are weighing up a move for Nottingham Forest winger Omari Hutchinson, according to the Daily Mail. Hutchinson is understood to be open to a San Siro switch if it materialises, and any agreement is likely to be a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Ipswich make a World Cup statement

Newly-promoted Ipswich Town have underlined their intent with a bold signing of their own.

The club have confirmed the arrival of Exequiel Palacios from Bayer Leverkusen. The fee stands at an initial £19.3m, with a further £4.3m in potential add-ons. Palacios, a World Cup winner with Argentina, immediately becomes one of the most high-profile players in Ipswich’s modern history.

He could make his debut against Manchester United on Sunday. For a side fresh into the division, throwing a World Cup winner straight into a game of that magnitude says plenty about where Ipswich see themselves heading.

Abraham weighs up Ipswich switch

Another potential move involving Ipswich is still in the balance. Tammy Abraham has yet to decide whether to leave Aston Villa and join Kieran McKenna’s side on loan.

The clubs have already agreed a straight loan deal, but the striker has not given the final green light. His situation at Villa is about to change again, with Nicolas Jackson set to arrive from Chelsea and push him further down the pecking order.
