Paris Saint-Germain have finally drawn a line under the Renato Sanches experiment.

European champions on the pitch, ruthless in the boardroom, PSG are ready to let the Portuguese midfielder walk away for nothing, despite a contract that runs through June 2027. No fee, no negotiation standoff, just a clean break the moment he agrees terms with a new club.

It is a brutal end to a long, stuttering chapter.

PSG cut the cord

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the decision is deliberate and strategic. Rather than send Sanches on yet another loan, the club’s hierarchy want to ease his permanent exit and remove a salary that has shifted from investment to dead weight.

Sanches returned to Paris this summer after a loan spell at Panathinaikos, where he quietly pieced together something resembling stability. He played 24 matches in Greece last season, starting 12, scoring once and providing an assist. Not spectacular, but important: he largely rediscovered his fitness, even if injuries still interrupted his rhythm.

Back at PSG, he did everything asked of him. He trained normally throughout pre-season. No new physical problems. No breakdowns. The body, for once, held up.

The verdict still came back negative.

Neither the coaching staff nor the board see him as part of the club’s future. In a squad being sharpened for the highest European ambitions, Sanches no longer fits the Parisian project. The 2016 Golden Boy has slipped from core piece to expendable asset.

A European dream that refuses to die

Sanches, though, is not ready to cash out.

He continues to cling to his European dream, turning down financially powerful offers from Saudi Arabia, Brazil and MLS. The message is clear: he wants a real sporting project, not a final payday. Regular minutes, a defined role, and a stage big enough to recover the shine he once carried at Benfica, Bayern Munich and Lille.

The market has responded quickly.

Interest has arrived in waves. Torino in Serie A, Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, and English sides Ipswich Town and Hull City have all put their names forward. Two French clubs are also weighing up a move, sensing an opportunity to revive a career that has already taken in a remarkable tour: Benfica to Bayern Munich, a loan at Swansea, then Lille, Roma and finally PSG in 2022.

Now, with Paris ready to open the door and not even ask for a fee, the next decision is his.
