PSG Targets Kounde as Barcelona Adjusts Defender Stance

Paris Saint-Germain have set their sights on Jules Kounde, and this time the interest comes straight from the top.

According to reports in Spain and France, the Barcelona defender has been identified as a specific request from PSG head coach Luis Enrique for this summer’s window. The 27-year-old France international, once ring-fenced as a key piece of Barça’s future, now finds himself at the centre of a calculated push from the French champions to bring him home.

Enrique’s blueprint: Kounde back in his natural role

This is not a speculative enquiry. Enrique and his staff have drawn up a clear tactical plan for Kounde: central defender, and nothing else.

Before his move to Camp Nou, Kounde built his reputation as a commanding centre-back, not the auxiliary right-back he has often been asked to be in Catalonia. PSG see that version of him as the anchor for the next phase of their back line, a player to be installed at the heart of the defence with guaranteed, consistent minutes.

That promise of a fixed role is central to their pitch. At a club where star names routinely jostle for status, PSG want Kounde to know exactly where he stands.

Al-Khelaifi takes charge as PSG eye another Barcelona raid

The pursuit is being driven personally by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, underlining how high Kounde sits on the club’s summer agenda. The Catalan hierarchy are now reportedly open to sanctioning the exits of both Kounde and Torres before the window closes, a position that would have been unthinkable not so long ago.
