Real Madrid Secures Future with Arda Güler's New Contract

Real Madrid are moving to lock down one of their brightest jewels for the long haul.

After Spanish daily AS revealed on Thursday that talks had taken a positive turn, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano went a step further a few hours later: according to his information, Real Madrid have now reached full agreement with Arda Güler’s camp on a new, long-term contract.

The deal is expected to tie the 21-year-old midfielder to the club until at least 2031. Romano even reports an agreement through 2032. That would place the Turkish international in a very exclusive bracket inside the dressing room: only big-money summer signing Yan Diomande, brought in for €125 million, is contracted for longer, with his deal running to 2033.

For Güler, this is more than just a signature. It is a statement. When he arrived from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023, his original contract was due to expire in 2029. Barely a year later, Madrid are already moving to extend and upgrade him into the core of their future project.

From €28m gamble to €90m superstar

Real Madrid paid €28 million to Fenerbahce to win the race for Güler. At the time, it was a sizeable outlay for a teenager stepping onto one of the biggest stages in world football.

That fee now looks like a bargain.

Güler’s current market value is estimated at around €90 million, putting the left-footer comfortably at the top of the list of the most valuable Turkish footballers. No one is close. The new contract is expected to mirror that rise in status, with his previous salary — reported at about €5 million per year — set for a major increase.

The numbers off the pitch are simply catching up with what he has been doing on it.

Step by step into the elite

Güler did not arrive as an automatic starter. He forced his way in. Last season, the youngster produced 20 goal involvements across 51 competitive matches, gradually earning more and more starts as the campaign wore on. His blend of vision, left-footed precision and calm in tight spaces turned him from promising prospect into a player the coaching staff could no longer ignore.

The change in the dugout has not slowed him down.

Under new head coach Jose Mourinho, Güler has underlined his importance all over again. He started three of Real Madrid’s first four league fixtures of the new season and delivered in each of them: one goal and one assist every time he was named in the XI. That is the kind of consistency that forces clubs to think a decade ahead.

Only a suspension, carried over from a red card in last season’s Champions League, kept him out of the 2-1 win against Inter Milan in Europe. It took a ban, not a tactical choice, to remove him from the teamsheet.

Real Madrid have seen enough. They moved quickly, they have their agreement, and they are preparing to build a significant slice of their future around Arda Güler’s left foot.
