Safia Middleton-Patel Returns to Watford on Loan for 2026-27
Safia Middleton-Patel has returned to Watford on loan from Manchester United, signing up for a full 2026-27 campaign with the Hornets.
The Wales international goalkeeper, 21, enjoyed a productive spell at Vicarage Road in the second half of the 2023-24 season and now commits to a complete year as Watford prepare for life in Women's Super League 2.
Middleton-Patel’s stock has risen sharply at Manchester United over the past two seasons. She made her senior debut for the Red Devils against Newcastle United in December 2024 and went on to collect three first-team appearances under Marc Skinner last term.
One of those outings came on a major stage: United’s Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford, a night that underlined the club’s faith in her temperament as much as her talent.
Manchester United underlined that belief in a brief statement, saying: "We will be tracking Saf's progress closely and wish her the very best of luck."
For Middleton-Patel, the move offers what every young goalkeeper craves but rarely gets at a top club: a clear runway of games. For Watford, it brings back a familiar and increasingly assured presence between the posts as they chase upward momentum in WSL2.
