Sancho Weighs Overseas Switch as Dortmund Leads Chase for Free Agent

Jadon Sancho is standing at a career crossroads, and he knows it.

Six weeks after his Manchester United contract officially expired, the 26-year-old winger is a free agent and, according to BBC Sport, is pushing for a move abroad despite firm interest from several Premier League clubs. The message from his camp is clear: a fresh stage, a different league, a restart away from England.

One familiar name is already at the front of the queue. Borussia Dortmund, where Sancho made his name across two spells and 158 appearances, are leading the race for his signature. The Bundesliga side know exactly what they would be getting – creativity, flair, and a player who once justified a £73 million move to Old Trafford in 2021.

His late cameo in the final against Freiburg added another line to a remarkable European record – a third straight season reaching a continental final, after previous runs with Dortmund and Chelsea.

For all the medals and big nights, though, there has been no permanent home. Just back-to-back loans in the Premier League and the nagging sense of a career stuck in limbo.

Training in the shadows

Right now, Sancho’s reality is a long way from packed stadiums and Champions League anthems. He is keeping fit by training with non-league side Flixton, staying sharp while his representatives work through options behind the scenes.

The timing adds extra tension. Major European leagues have either kicked off or are about to. Pre-season is over. Squads are being finalised. Any club that moves for him now will want a player ready to slot straight in, not one still searching for rhythm in September.

That is the race he faces: not just to find a club, but to find the right one quickly enough to matter this season.
