Sparta Rotterdam Set to Sign PSV Midfielder Isaac Babadi on Loan

Sparta Rotterdam are closing in on a loan deal for PSV midfielder Isaac Babadi, with the move expected to be confirmed before the Deadline Day window slams shut, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.

The 21-year-old, once tipped as one of the brightest prospects at the Philips Stadion, has seen his pathway blocked. Minutes have dried up, opportunities even more so. PSV have therefore given the green light for him to leave on loan in search of regular football.

Earlier this week, Voetbal International reported that both Fortuna Sittard and Sparta were in the race for his signature. Sparta have now pulled ahead and look set to win that battle, positioning themselves as the club willing to give Babadi the stage he has been missing.

The agreement stands apart from Ayoni Santos’ recent transfer from Sparta to PSV. This is not a makeweight, not a package deal, but a separate move built around Babadi’s need for playing time and Sparta’s desire for creativity in midfield.

According to ED, Sparta will not take on Babadi’s full salary, but will cover part of his wages. The final details are being tied up, with an official announcement expected later on Deadline Day.

Babadi remains firmly tied to PSV in the long term. His contract in Eindhoven runs until mid-2028, and he has already made 35 official first-team appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist. On paper, that looks like the profile of a player ready to push on. In reality, he is on the fringes of Peter Bosz’s plans.

His last outing for PSV’s first team came back in May of last year. Since then, his development has largely taken place away from Eindhoven. Babadi spent last season on loan at Royal Antwerp FC, where he featured 21 times in official matches and picked up valuable experience in a different environment.

Now, another loan beckons. This time in Rotterdam, where Sparta believe they can offer him what PSV currently cannot: a prominent role, consistent minutes, and the chance to prove he still belongs at the sharp end of the Eredivisie.
