Stoke City Sign Justin Devenny from Crystal Palace

Stoke City have landed midfielder Justin Devenny from Crystal Palace on a four-year deal, as the Championship club continues its aggressive summer rebuild.

The fee remains undisclosed, but the intent is obvious. At 22, Devenny arrives with a Premier League and European pedigree that Stoke believe can drive a push back towards the top flight.

He spent three seasons at Crystal Palace, making 60 appearances and scoring four goals. Those numbers only tell part of the story. Devenny was involved across some of the most successful campaigns in Palace’s history, featuring in their FA Cup, Community Shield and Uefa Conference League-winning runs. That exposure to high-stakes football is exactly what Stoke are banking on.

For the Northern Ireland international, the move is about ambition as much as opportunity.

“A big part of the reason for me joining is that the ambitions of the club match mine, and that's to ultimately get back into the Premier League,” he told the club’s website. “That's the goal, and it's what we want and it's what the fans want as well. With the size of the club, that's what we need to aim to be.”

Stoke have not been shy this window. Devenny is their tenth signing of the summer, a clear signal that the Potters are tired of drifting in the middle reaches of the Championship and want to assemble a squad capable of sustaining a promotion challenge.

Sporting director Jon Walters underlined exactly why Devenny was targeted, pointing to the midfielder’s edge as well as his experience.

He praised Devenny’s “tenacious attitude” and stressed that his time in the Premier League and in Europe would raise standards inside the dressing room. Walters also highlighted the tactical flexibility the new signing offers.

“Devenny gives us versatility and further competition within the squad, which was important to us as we looked to strengthen over the summer,” he said. “With the 10 new signings we have made over the window, we feel we have added both quality and depth across the squad.

“We believe we now have a group capable of having a successful season, but we know the relentless hard work must continue throughout the club if we are going to achieve what we want to.”

The message from Stoke is clear: the excuses are over. With Devenny added to a heavily revamped squad, this season will be judged on whether those Premier League ambitions start to look like a realistic destination rather than a distant memory.
