Sunderland prepare for Geertruida exit as PSV loan deal approaches

Sunderland look set to lose Lutsharel Geertruida, with PSV Eindhoven reported to have struck a loan deal that includes an option to buy.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims the Dutch defender will join on an initial temporary move, with PSV able to make it permanent for around £13million. The 23-year-old is now expected to travel for a medical and sign his contract, a significant defensive departure for the Black Cats as the season looms.

Everton eye Flemming after Burnley fightback

Everton have turned their attention to Zian Flemming after the Burnley forward underlined his value with a brace against West Ham on Sunday.

The Dutch attacker dragged the Clarets back from two goals down to snatch a point, and that performance has only sharpened interest. Everton are not alone either, with clubs in Italy also tracking the former Millwall man as his stock rises again.

Al-Hilal ready huge bid for Watkins

Ollie Watkins is the latest Premier League star in Saudi Arabia’s sights.

Al-Hilal are reportedly preparing a £38.5million offer for the Aston Villa and England striker. Romano reports that Watkins is open to the move, but Villa have already rebuffed two approaches from the Saudi Pro League giants and remain under no pressure to sell one of their key players.

Garlick lifts lid on Arteta talks

Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick insists negotiations over a new deal for Mikel Arteta are well underway and progressing positively.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Garlick said he is pleased with how discussions are unfolding, even as the club juggles the final weeks of the transfer window.

“We’ve got a transfer window to navigate over the next couple of weeks, but we’ll look to conclude that as soon as we can,” he said. “Talks have been ongoing for a while. We don’t just suddenly start having talks – they’ve been ongoing for a number of months, and they’re very constructive and very progressive.

“He wants to be at this club, and we want him to be at the club, and I’m sure we’ll find the solution sooner rather than later.”

Sunderland face Mehalie blow

Any Sunderland move for Dayann Mehalie would be a coup, but also a test of their pulling power.

The 20-year-old full-back impressed for Toulouse in Ligue 1 last season and has drawn serious interest from across Europe, not just Wearside. Losing out on him would sting for a club already braced for Geertruida’s exit.

United chase two more signings

Manchester United are not done yet. Reports suggest they want two more arrivals before the window shuts.

Lewis Hall is on their list as a left-back option, but Newcastle are determined to keep the former Chelsea youngster. United are also pushing to bring in another midfielder as they try to round off their summer rebuild.

Gavi knocks back United

United have taken a hit in midfield.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Barcelona star Gavi has rejected a move to Old Trafford. United were reportedly ready to meet the £35million asking price, but the Spain international wants to stay in Catalonia, leaving Erik ten Hag looking elsewhere.

£70m price set for Ndiaye

Another United target, Iliman Ndiaye, will not come cheap.

The Times report that Everton will demand at least £70million for the forward, who is entering the final year of his contract and has been heavily linked with a move away. United are among the clubs monitoring the situation, but that fee sets a high bar for any bidder.

Arsenal want players who ‘change the dial’

Richard Garlick has outlined Arsenal’s transfer strategy, stressing that the club are now focused on signing players capable of transforming the team rather than just filling out the squad.

The Gunners have already swung and missed on ambitious moves for Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez, but Garlick says the profile they are targeting remains the same.

“It’s players that are going to take Arsenal forward,” he explained. “In the past we’ve looked at players that maybe helped build out the squad or get us to a certain level, but now we’re competing right at the top level, and we do need to bring in players that are going to change the dial.

“That might be younger players that come into your squad and give them time to develop, and you’ve seen that in the last couple of years at Arsenal, and if we’re able to combine those players that are coming through the academy with some of the best players in the world then we’ve got every chance of maintaining that success and going beyond what we’ve already achieved.”

Wan-Bissaka set for Villa return

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is closing in on a move back to the Premier League with Aston Villa.

West Ham have agreed to let the former Manchester United right-back leave on loan with a mandatory purchase clause at the end of the season. Wan-Bissaka has been cleared to head to the Midlands for his medical as Unai Emery looks to deepen his defensive options.

Saudi interest grows in Kane

Harry Kane’s future is again under the microscope.

With the England captain entering the final year of his Bayern Munich contract, talkSPORT report that Al-Hilal have held talks with his representatives and that “the door has not been shut” on a potential move. The expectation, though, is that Kane will stay in Bavaria for this season.

Rodri bids emotional farewell to City

Rodri has spoken openly about his decision to leave Manchester City for Barcelona, insisting his bond with the club and city will remain.

“It’s not like I miss [City] because I don’t feel like I’m leaving. I think I’m just moving to another club, but my heart will always be linked to the city and to the club,” he said.

“I always try to be involved in the games, try to come and watch them and keep in touch with my ex-teammates. But of course, physically you leave. Seven years is the right moment to say goodbye, to write a good story.

“I always say that the most important thing is to have the whole image, the whole movie, and say I’m proud of this. Both parts, club and player, we’re proud of this, and this was the reason for my decision.

“My heart will always be blue all my life. And they always have Rodri for anything they need.”

Barcelona pay big to land Rodri

Barcelona have paid a heavy fee to prise Rodri away from Manchester City despite the midfielder having just 12 months left on his contract.

The Spanish giants have agreed a reported fixed fee of £60million and will hand the 28-year-old wages of around £11million per season. That works out at more than £210,000 a week on a four-year deal, taking him through to 34 and underlining just how highly Barca rate the former City lynchpin.

Fofana at centre of Premier League tug-of-war

Youssouf Fofana is at the heart of a Premier League battle.

Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are both pushing to sign the AC Milan midfielder after the Serie A club informed the France international that he is no longer part of their plans. Journalist Matteo Moretto reports that Newcastle have already made an enquiry as they look to bolster their engine room.

Wolves move for Cozier-Duberry

Wolves have made an enquiry for Brighton winger Amario Cozier-Duberry as they look to add more attacking spark.

The Championship side are weighing several options, with Sky Sports naming the former Arsenal youngster among their targets. Brighton have already rejected a £7.5million bid from Rangers, underlining that the Seagulls will drive a hard bargain.

Vieira takes Senegal job through to 2030

Patrick Vieira has stepped into international management for the first time, taking over as head coach of Senegal.

The former Arsenal captain has signed a deal running to 2030 and takes immediate control of the national team. He now faces a rapid turnaround to prepare for key competitive fixtures later in the autumn, with expectations high after Senegal’s recent success on the African stage.

Vicario seals Juventus loan from Spurs

Guglielmo Vicario has completed a return to Serie A, joining Juventus on an initial free loan from Tottenham.

The agreement includes an option to buy for €8million plus a further €2million in add-ons. The Italian goalkeeper leaves north London to strengthen Juve’s goalkeeping department for the rest of the campaign.

Fullkrug heads back to Werder Bremen

Niclas Fullkrug is heading home.

West Ham United have confirmed the striker has rejoined Werder Bremen on loan for the 2026/27 season. Sky in Germany report that the deal includes an option to make the move permanent, with the 33-year-old accepting a wage cut to push it through.

Still under contract at the London Stadium until 2028, the Germany international returns to the club where he first broke through, chasing one last surge of form in the Bundesliga.

Everton chief calm over right-back hunt

Everton chief executive Angus Kinnear has admitted the club will miss their target of signing a new right-back before Saturday’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace – but insists the search is under control.

Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside, Kinnear said David Moyes will again have to improvise at full-back, though he praised Jake O’Brien for doing a “sterling job” in the role.

“The players we thought we had the option of are still available for us… I’m confident that we’ll bring a right-back in. It’s a position we’ve needed,” he said.

He also recognised the mood in the stands. “I understand the fans’ frustrations; I understand how they see it as being critical… We are working hard to bring one in, and I’m sure we will.”

Southampton fight to keep Scienza

Southampton are battling to keep Leo Scienza as Premier League clubs circle the Brazilian playmaker.

Saints want to hold together the core of the side that narrowly missed out on promotion last season, and Scienza sits at the heart of that plan. The 27-year-old scored seven goals and provided nine assists in the Championship, form that has inevitably attracted top-flight attention.

A big offer could yet test Southampton’s resolve – and with the window ticking down, the question is how long they can hold their nerve.
