Swansea City Secures Ghanaian Winger Joseph Opoku from Zulte Waregem

Swansea City have officially signed Joseph Opoku, a 20-year-old winger from Ghana, who arrives from Belgian club Zulte Waregem. The deal marks a new chapter for the young player, who had joined the Belgian side in 2024 and played a key role in their promotion to the Belgian Pro League.

Opoku has committed to a four-year contract with Swansea, with the club holding an option to extend the agreement by another year. His experience in Belgium's top tier and international exposure seem to have prepared him well for the challenges ahead.

Coach Vitor Matos Welcomes New Signing

Vitor Matos, the head coach of Swansea, commented on Opoku’s potential, saying, "He is a young player who has gained significant senior football experience in Belgium. We believe he can handle the physical demands and pace of the Championship." He also noted that Opoku had already joined the team on their pre-season tour in Austria and participated in his first training session, expressing excitement about his addition.

Player Background and Achievements

Opoku made his breakthrough last season, recording 10 goals and 6 assists. In May, he earned his senior debut for the Ghana national team during a friendly match against Mexico. Although he was included in Ghana’s preliminary squad for the World Cup, he did not make the final selection.
