Tiger Shroff’s Durand Cup Debut Delayed by Work Commitment

Tiger Shroff’s much-hyped competitive bow for Mumbai FC will have to wait.

The Bollywood star confirmed on Sunday that he will not feature for the club in the ongoing Durand Cup 2026, pulling out just days after his inclusion in the squad had set social media and fan circles buzzing.

Named in Mumbai FC’s Durand Cup roster on July 28, Shroff’s presence sparked genuine intrigue: a mainstream film star, 36 years old, ready to lace up for a professional side in one of Asia’s oldest football tournaments. Co-owner Zoheb Amrani had even suggested that Shroff could appear in at least one of the group-stage fixtures in Shillong.

That possibility has now vanished.

A last-minute work commitment has forced Shroff to stay away from the club’s next outing, a group match against Nongkseh SS & CC in Shillong. Speaking in a video posted on Mumbai FC’s official Instagram account, he cut a disappointed figure.

“Really, really unfortunate, but a work commitment has come up at the last moment, so I won’t be able to make it to Shillong for the Durand Cup,” Shroff said, confirming he would not be travelling with the squad.

The disappointment is not just the club’s or the fans’. Shroff has been invested in this project from the start. Since Mumbai FC’s launch in 2024, he has been more than a ceremonial face: turning up for the Mumbai District League, joining training sessions, and steadily building towards what he hoped would be a full professional debut.

That storyline now pauses.

Shroff stressed that his commitment to the club remains, even if he cannot cross the white line in Shillong. “I’m going to do everything in my power to support you guys to the best of my capability. There’s so much young talent, and with the right support and opportunities, I truly believe Indian football can do wonders,” he said.

For Mumbai FC, his absence strips away an intriguing subplot from their Durand Cup campaign. For Shroff, it delays a personal milestone he has been chasing since he first developed a serious interest in the game.

The cameras will still follow him, of course. But for now, they will not be tracking his runs down the flank in Shillong.
