Tottenham Finalize £60m Deal for Omar Marmoush

Tottenham Hotspur have struck a full agreement with Manchester City to sign Omar Marmoush on an initial loan that will become a big-money permanent move, according to The Athletic.

The 27-year-old Egyptian forward is heading to north London in a deal that includes a mandatory purchase clause worth a fixed £50m plus a further £10m in add-ons. Half of those bonuses are described as easily achievable, underlining Spurs’ belief that Marmoush will play a major role under Roberto De Zerbi.

He will sign a four-year contract with an option for a further 12 months. Eintracht Frankfurt, the club City bought him from, will not receive any sell-on percentage from the transfer.

From Etihad frustration to Spurs lifeline

A departure from the Etihad Stadium had been looming for Marmoush after a stuttering spell in Manchester. He only arrived in January 2025, but regular minutes never truly materialised.

Last season he scored eight goals in 36 appearances in all competitions, yet his Premier League involvement told the real story: just eight starts and 13 outings from the bench. Bright moments, yes, but not enough to dislodge the established hierarchy in City’s attack.

It was a sharp contrast to the form that persuaded City to move in the first place. They committed up to €75m (£63m) to sign him from Frankfurt after he exploded with 20 goals in 26 games in the opening months of the 2024-25 campaign. He began life in Manchester promisingly too, with seven goals in 16 games, before gradually slipping out of contention.

His last competitive appearance for City came as a substitute for Erling Haaland in the 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on August 16. From there, the writing on the wall grew bolder by the week.

Spurs’ £300m overhaul

For Tottenham, this is another statement swing in a frantic window. Marmoush’s arrival follows the £85m capture of Brazilian winger Savinho, a long-term target finally landed after a failed pursuit the previous year.

Those two headline attacking deals push Spurs’ summer spending comfortably beyond the £300m mark. The club have already secured Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, while Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka have arrived on free transfers.

This is not tinkering. It is a full-scale rebuild under De Zerbi after back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League left the club staring down the wrong end of the table and forced a reset of both squad and ambition.

Versatility for a congested season

Before the move is rubber-stamped, Marmoush will undergo his medical in London and finalise personal terms ahead of the transfer deadline. Barring late drama, De Zerbi expects to have him available quickly.

Tottenham’s staff see Marmoush as a key piece in their tactical puzzle. His ability to operate across the front line gives De Zerbi the flexibility he craves during a packed schedule, with the Egyptian capable of leading the line, drifting in from wide areas or linking play between the lines.

The urgency is clear. Spurs need a sharper, more varied attack if they are to shake off the stagnation of recent seasons. Marmoush, once the rising star of Frankfurt and an expensive gamble for City, now becomes central to that rescue mission in north London.
