Tottenham's Attack Plans: Savinho, Gakpo, and Neto

Tottenham have set out their attacking blueprint for the final stretch of the window – and the picture around Pedro Neto is becoming clearer.

Roberto De Zerbi has already rebuilt the spine of his Spurs side, with midfield and defence addressed early. The glaring gap now sits higher up the pitch. He wants fresh legs and fresh ideas in the forward line, and he wants them quickly.

At the top of that list is Savinho. Tottenham are prepared to pay a total of £85million to Manchester City for the winger, a deal that underlines just how central he is to De Zerbi’s plans. He has been viewed as a primary target for weeks, and the club are pushing hard to get it over the line.

Transfer insider Pete O’Rourke has laid out how the rest of the pecking order looks behind Savinho.

“Pedro Neto is on Tottenham’s list, maybe not at the top of it right now,” he told Football Insider. “Savinho is their number one target for that wide attacking position, he is the priority and they’re working hard to reach an agreement with Man City over that one.

“Cody Gakpo is high on that list as well, and both of those players are probably ahead of Pedro Neto in the pecking order for Spurs.

“Savinho is the one they’re really pushing to get done, and they’re keen on Gakpo too, so that’s where they stand at the moment.”

So the hierarchy is clear: Savinho first, Gakpo next, Neto further back.

Chelsea dig in over Neto

Any move for Neto, though, comes with a brutal price tag.

TEAMtalk understands Chelsea will demand around £100million to even consider selling the Portugal international. His camp are open to the idea of a transfer, but the club want a fee that reflects how highly they rate him.

Xabi Alonso, for his part, is in no rush to lose the winger and would be happy to keep him in his squad. Chelsea are well aware of the interest building around Neto, not just from Spurs but also from Manchester City, while Al-Hilal have already tried to test their resolve.

The Saudi side lodged an offer of £60million. Chelsea turned it down without blinking, consistent with their stance that Neto will only move for top-tier money.

That creates a hard stop for Tottenham. After committing £85million to Savinho, the likelihood of them then dropping £100million on another wide forward, who often operates in similar areas of the pitch, looks slim.

Spurs want more firepower. They want variety in attack. But with Savinho close and Gakpo admired, Neto may end up as the elite option who never quite fits the numbers.
