Tottenham's Exciting New Signings: Savio and Marmoush

Roberto De Zerbi called them “bomba” – and he meant it.

Tottenham’s head coach could barely hide his excitement as he paraded the club’s latest attacking weapons, Savio and Omar Marmoush, while leaving the door open for one last move before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night.

Spurs go all‑in with Savio and Marmoush

Spurs raided Manchester City this week to complete a double deal that underlines just how aggressively they have attacked this window. Savio, a long-term target, has arrived in a package worth £85million, with Marmoush joining on a season-long loan that carries an obligation to buy.

If that Marmoush fee eventually climbs towards £60m, Tottenham’s summer outlay will surge past £350m. It already has, in De Zerbi’s words, gone beyond anything he imagined.

“I think Savio and Marmoush are bomba,” he said ahead of Newcastle’s visit to north London on Saturday. “I don’t know what name or how you can call them but players of a high level, for sure.

“I didn’t expect one transfer market and one window like we have done.”

And yet he still wants more.

“I think we can do one player more and in one specific position,” he revealed, explaining that he had dinner on Thursday with the club’s hierarchy – the owners, Vinai Venkatesham, Johan Lange and Enrico Venturelli – to align on the final days of the window. The message from that table: everyone is pulling in the same direction.

Marmoush the eighth piece of the puzzle

Marmoush becomes Tottenham’s eighth signing of the summer and arrives at a crucial time for De Zerbi’s attacking plans. He offers cover as a central striker and as an alternative number 10, a valuable option with James Maddison still short of full sharpness and Mohammed Kudus only just back from a long tendon lay-off.

The numbers back up the excitement. Marmoush hit 37 goals in a prolific 18-month spell at Eintracht Frankfurt and added 16 more at Manchester City. Even so, with competition fierce and fitness to manage, he may have to settle for a place on the bench against Newcastle.

De Zerbi is convinced the wait will be worth it.

“A great signing for us. A great player, another great player and every one of us loves him as a player,” he said. “We hope he can do what he is able. I think he can give more solutions in attack.

“We need players in attack capable to score goals, to play well with the ball also, a very fast player, great qualities and we are all happy.

“I think he can play as a central striker. He is a different number 10 than (Conor) Gallagher or Maddison, more of an attacker, but he is a player of big qualities. The most important thing is to have players with qualities.”

New captain, new faces, same intent

Tottenham’s 5-1 Carabao Cup demolition of Charlton in midweek offered a glimpse of what is coming. New captain Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro both featured and are pushing to start again in the league. Savio is being lined up for his full debut, while Kudus is finally close to a return to the matchday squad for the first time since January.

The squad is swelling, the options multiplying. One player whose future still hangs in the balance is Pape Sarr.

“Pape? No, he’s good,” De Zerbi said. “We have to see in the last day of the transfer market what can happen with him.

“If you want to leave and you have not found the offer, it’s your problem, not my problem. I give respect, I kiss you, I hug you, but at the end have to stay calm inside the dressing room.”

It was a line that summed up the new Tottenham. Ruthless, ambitious, and suddenly stacked with attacking firepower – with the possibility of one more “bomba” still to come before the clock hits 11pm on Tuesday.
